The effect of pressure on the hydration shell of ions

Abstract The effect of pressure on the structure of a 2.2 molal NaCl solution around room temperature was investigated by analyzing the results of molecular dynamics simulations at pressures of 1 bar and 10 kbar. The increase in pressure results in a slight decrease in the hydration shell structures of sodium and chloride ions. On the other hand, the H-bond structure of the solvent water undergoes a significant distortion is similar to that found in pure water.
