Today’s factories are powered by a large number of independent electric motors, each directly connected to the operating machine. Only elderly people and scholars are aware of the times when, in factories and work-shops, power was delivered from a central source, a steam engine or a hydraulic turbine, and the power distributed by means of shafting.
