Analysis of the Influence of Installing Synchronous Condenser in HVDC Inverter Station to Receiving-End Grid

As multi-infeed HVDC systems are fed into the AC grid, the problem of insufficient dynamic power reserve and insufficient voltage support of receiving-end grid is increasingly prominent. Short-circuit capacity and short- circuit ratio of the system, transient voltage level, and DC commutation failure probability before and after the installation of synchronous condenser are compared by simulation. The results prove the application effect of synchronous condenser in HVDC inverter station. Combined with the operating characteristics of synchronous condenser, the law of system voltage recovery time changing with transient time constant is revealed. The research provides a theoretical basis for dynamic reactive power compensation of synchronous condenser in HVDC inverter station.
