The effect of clinical history on physicians' ECG interpretation skills

The study examined the impact of a clinical history on residents’ diagnosis of ECG abnormalities. When given a history consistent with the correct diagnosis, 77% of residents diagnosed the ECG correctly, versus 29% with a history suggesting a plausible alternative diagnosis. With consistent history, residents saw nearly twice as many features consistent with the correct diagnosis, and fewer features compatible with the alternative diagnosis.
