Adult literacy and basic education: a SADC regional perspective

This article discusses lifelong learning in Southern Africa, and the difficulties of introducing lifelong learning in a region with a very high illiteracy rate. This is set within the context of globalisation, which demands a highly educated and skilled workforce. The article examines the initiatives that have been made by the Technical Committee on Lifelong Education and Training (TCLET) to define lifelong learning and formulate plans for its implementation.
