It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the First ACM Workshop on Millimeter Wave Networks and Sensing Systems--mmNets'17. The workshop is focused on the design and implementation of new millimeter wave protocols and networks. The workshop's scope ranges from millimeter wave networks that can enable multi-Gbps wireless connectivity for 5G and WLANs to new millimeter wave sensing and imaging systems. Our goal is to identify and solve key challenges facing millimeter wave systems. The workshop brings together researchers from industry and academia to set the future research agenda of millimeter wave networks and sensing systems. Researchers working on millimeter wave systems, communications, networking, hardware designs, and mobile applications will present innovative ideas that have the potential to grow to full-fledged millimeter wave systems that realize the vision of extremely high data rate wireless connectivity.
We have put together a very exciting program with three keynotes and several invited talks from both industry and academia. The program also features two technical sessions and a panel discussion. Our keynote talks are:
Vehicle-to-X Communications: The Killer Application of Millimeter Wave, Robert Heath (University of Texas at Austin)
3GPP 5G NR mmWave Standards, Boon Loong Ng (Samsung)
Millimeter Wave Mobile Communications for 5G: Propagation, System Design and Performance, Ashwin Sampath (Qualcomm).
