An eyeball-like biconvex/meniscus lens optical system with fluidic-controlled focus for tunable lens applications

This paper presents a novel eyeball-like fluidic lens system composed of a flexible meniscus lens and a deformable biconvex lens components, between which is a chamber that can be filled with pressurized water for controlled deformation and focusing of the compound structure. The novel fabrication process is detailed. The fabricated fluidic lens system is used to project test images on a CCD chip. Reasonably good optical performance is obtained.
