USING REAL-TIME LOCATION INFORMATION FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SHIPMENTS

This paper studies the availability of real-time location information for shipments of ultrahazardous materials, thus offering the opportunity for dynamic rerouting of such shipments in the event of unforeseen delays or incidents on the network. The paper illustrates dynamic rerouting on a hypothetical network, focusing on two example analyses. In the first, the primary concern is with a single routing objective. The second example focuses on multiple objectives and rerouting as a result of an incident somewhere along the planned route ahead of the shipment.
