PURPOSE: To improve the friction characteristic of a slider and to maintain the low coefft. of friction of a slider over the service life period of a disk drive by previously removing the damaged material peeled by friction which occurs during the time of CSS of the slider with a disk. CONSTITUTION: This process for producing the magnetic recording head slider having the surface part including the damaged material is composed of a process for preferentially removing the damaged material of the surface by polishing, allowing the non-damaged material to remain as it is on the surface to lessen the wear and stick of the slider and forming microtexture on the slider.
