Novel bearingless machine with a single set of multiphase windings

A bearingless machine with a single set of multiphase windings was proposed based on the principle of motor levitation. Two needed magnetic fields were produced through feeding two groups of currents into the single set of multiphase windings by using a multiphase inverter.Taking a six phase induction machine as example, the levitation principle and winding configurations were analyzed. The inductance matrices considering airgap eccentricity were calculated with the modified winding function method.A radial force analytical model was deduced by virtual displacement method, and the correctness of the model were validated by finite element analysis.A mathematical model of the new bearingless machine was set up,and the simulation on the magnetic field oriented control showed stable suspension and good speed-regulation performance.
