Marine emission inventory and its temporal and spatial characteristics in Guangdong Province

Activity-based and fuel-based approaches were utilized to develop the marine emission inventory in Guangdong Province for the year of 2010, and its temporal and spatial characteristics were investigated by analyzing passenger and cargo transportation flow and throughput, fairway traffic capacity factors, and geographic coordinates of ports and others. Results showed that total emissions of SO 2,NO x,CO,PM 10,PM 2. 5 and VOCs from marine vessels in Guangdong Province were about 14. 6 × 104t,23. 1 × 104t,3. 0 × 104t,7. 9 × 103t,7. 2 × 103t and 9. 3 × 103t,respectively. Monthly emissions from passenger and cargo vessels in Guangdong Province presented a relatively steady trend while monthly emissions from fishing vessels peaked in January,April and November, respectively. Emissions of Passenger and cargo vessels mainly distributed along the Xijiang River and within the highlevel waterways of the Pearl River Delta, while emissions in ports were concentrated in coastal cities. Emissions of fishing vessels were characterized by a significant banding distribution along the coastline.
