Wavelength-locked Tm:Y2O3 ceramic laser with a volume Bragg grating

An 808-nm laser diode-pumped narrow line-width Tm∶Y2O3 ceramic laser at 2059 nm was realized using volume Bragg grating (VBG) to provide a spectrally controlled feedback. The reflecting-VBG was used as a wavelength selector and a pump input mirror simultaneously. A maximum output power of 1.81 W with a slope efficiency of about 15.7% with respect to absorbed power was obtained. The central wavelength of the Tm∶Y2O3 ceramic laser was locked at 2059.7 nm with an FWHM linewidth of 0.1 nm. Our work provides a cost-effective method for developing a 2-μm solid-state laser with good wavelength stability. © 2019 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) [DOI: 10.1117/1.OE.58.2.026114]
