Information Technologies in tourism: Implications for the tourism curriculum

This paper examines the transformation of the tourism curriculum as a result of the Information Technology (IT) revolution. It argues that graduates need to be much more familiar with IT, as it already determines the competitiveness of organisations. The paper suggests that IT education is provided through both specialised and generic modules taught in tourism courses. It also argues that IT should be incorporated as a strategic element in the tourism curriculum. Synergies will enable students to appreciate the significance of IT, as well as to develop skills in order to lead their organisations to achieve competitive advantages.
