Proportional Hazard Modelling in the Analysis of Transmission Failure Statistics

The Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) has a comprehensive databank of electricity transmission equipment failure and repair data. The structure of the data is not purely random in time as transmission failures tend to be correlated with external causes (e.g. weather effects), and it is important that the data structure is understood before it is utilised in reliability models. Proportional Hazard Modelling (PHM) is a powerful technique for exploring the structure of reliability data to ensure that appropriate modelling techniques are utilised.
