Study on Vibration Characteristics Analysis and Characterization of Multiple Failure Modes of High-speed Train Axle Bearing

This paper focuses on analysing vibration signals from the axle bearings of highspeed trains to quantitatively characterize the bearings’ operating conditions. A novel characterization method for analyzing the axle-box vibration signature based on the EEMD shape function is presented. A wheel-set running test bench is used to obtain the different vibration signals of an axle bearing with multiple fault statuses. The main IMF of measured signals is selected to establish the shape function. The resulting steadiness index contains well-defined dividing value intervals with no overlap between multiple axle bearing states. Based on the results obtained, the proposed method provides an effective and reliable condition monitoring procedure and a reference threshold for axle bearing online monitoring strategies and alarm mechanisms in real-world applications
