An Eight-Element MIMO Antenna system for 5G Mobile Handsets

A Compact self-isolated Multi Input Multi Output Antenna Array is presented for the 5G mobile phone devices. The proposed antenna system operating in 3.5 GHz (3.4 - 3.6) GHz consists of eight antenna elements placed along two side-edge of a mobile device, which meet the current trend requirements of full-screen smartphone devices. Isolation of a better than 12.2 dB is achieved without utilizing additional isolation elements or/and decoupling techniques. S parameters and antenna efficiencies are investigated for the antenna performance evaluation. For evaluating the proposed MIMO system’s performance, the Envelope Correlation Coefficients (ECCs) are considered. The ECCs are less than 0.011 in the desired band.
