With the accelerated extension of media and flood of data, information, and knowledge, the importance of visual language which is a communication method suitable for the rapidly-changing communication environment and time should be recognized. As the production of visual language suitable for the time is required, this paper discussed the effectiveness of the design production of visual language as the core of the future-oriented added value. After examining the social roles, characteristics, and expression methods of visual language, the concept of design productivity was defined. Based on the understanding of society-deterministic design productivity in accordance with changes in production environment, the cases of design production companies were reviewed. The visual expression based on design production replaces the connectivity with other meanings and something abstract with something concrete, getting out of the direct expression method, and also effectively suggests the developmental methodology of expression suitable for the concept. It would be required to understand the elements of visual language, and also to have a cognitive approach giving associative/emotional meanings. The logical core functions and information should be approached through visual language in the position of consumer. In order to create new creative values, more active production of visual language would be necessary. The visual language should be developed by focusing on the systematic and specialized production of meanings, instead of the design production for visual beauty.
