Front feed radar antenna

The present invention relates to a front feed radar antenna. The antenna comprises a feed and a metamaterial panel, also a reflective panel affixed to one side of the metamaterial panel. The metamaterial panel comprises multiple core layers having identical refractive index distributions. Each core layer comprises multiple metamaterial units. The metamaterial units comprise unit substrates provided with artificial metal microstructures or artificial pore structures. Refractive indexes of each core layer of the metamaterial panel are in a circular distribution centering on the center thereof, the refractive indexes decrease gradually as the radius increases, and the refractive indexes are identical at a same radius. By changing the pattern of refractive index distribution within the metamaterial panel, the front feed radar antenna of the present invention improves on the deflection problem of electromagnetic wave at a great incident angle, thus improving the efficiency of energy radiation, while at the same time improves the front-and-back ratio of the antenna, thus providing the antenna with improved directionality. Also, the present invention uses the panel-shaped metamaterial, thus conserving space for the antenna.
