The GSHP(Geo-Source Heat Pump) system using pre-unused energy like sea-water, river-water and geo-source is available to building heating or cooling load reducing application as well hot water supply application. Regardless of annually uneven ambient condition, this kind of GSHP system use ground heat source(heating mode) or heat sink(cooling mode) with annually steady temperature profile, so it has always very safe and stable operation condition and high COP(coeffcient of performance). This sort of prototype GSHP system is located in Umsung district, which is composed of 3 RT compressor, 0.3 ton domestic hot water storage tank and 2.7 ton heating or cooling water storage tank and 150m deeped into U-tube type ground heat exchanger.
The purpose of this paper is to assess thermal performance of this kind of Umsung GSHP system with empirical method, from theses studies, it was found that the COP of GSHP system is 2.8∼3.8 for heating mode and 3.9∼4.9 for cooling mode at steady condition.
