Measurement of percent carboxyhemoglobin with pulse-oximetry technique

Computer simulations based on the photon diffusion theory are carried out to analyze the feasibility of measuring the percent carboxyhemoglobin (%HbCO) using the pulse-oximetry technique. A series of in vitro experiments using a mechanical pulser to simulate the pumping effect of the heart is performed. Both the theoretical and the experimental data show that a pulse-oximetry technique using multiple wavelengths can be applied for the measurement of %HbCO.<<ETX>>
