Comparison of NRZ- and RZ-modulation format for 40 Gbit/s TDM standard-fibre systems

It is shown, that for upgrading communication systems by dispersion management to 40 Gbit/s TDM-transmission the RZ-modulation format is superior to conventional NRZ-modulation resulting in a 3-fold increase in standard-fibre length even at high power levels.
