Costs of voltage sags: Comprehensive assessment procedure

The paper presents a comprehensive methodology for stochastic assessment of customer financial losses due to voltage sags over a specified period of time. Modern automated process controls are very sensitive to voltage sags. Therefore, for accurate economic assessment of power quality the exact and precise counting of expected process trips due to voltage sags is very essential. This paper proposes a general technique for quantifying the nuisance trips of customer processes (due to voltage sags) taking into account the uncertainties involved with the sensitivity and interconnection of equipments participating in an industrial process, customer types and location of the process in the system network. The study is performed on a generic distribution network.
