Millimetric wavelength microcellular mobile radio systems: a solution to spectrum congestion for high user densities?

mm-wavelength systems are constrained by technological limitations andby propagation. These effects are examined in the context of microcellular systems. Some results of practical and theoretical systems studies are reported which demonstrate the feasibility of mm-wave microcellular communications and the expected limitations. Finally, consideration is given to the regulatory aspects where it is envisaged that a deregulated regime may co-exist with a more regulated environment offering a guaranteed high standard of performance.
