An Unsteady Theory for Fluidelastic Instability in an Array of Flexible Tubes in Cross-Flow. Part II: Results and Comparison With Experiments

Abstract A relatively simple unsteady theory of fluidelastic instability in a flexible array of tubes in cross-flow was developed in Part 1 of this study. In this part, numerical results are computed and compared with experimental data from the literature. It is shown that the single flexible tube in a rigid array model predicts a tendency towards divergence at high values of the mass-damping parameter and is, therefore, not a suitable model for a flexible array of tubes at such values. The results for a flexible array of tubes show reasonable agreement with experiments for all standards array geometries.
