A case study was performed for a plastic mold manufacturing company where optimal mold cooling conditions were analysed using Lean Six Sigma methodology. For the injection process, mold surface temperature turned out to be the major factor affecting injected part quality and productivity, as well as the cooling time of the injection process. The 5 vital few factors that determine the mold surface temperature were identified by ANOVA analysis. The experimental results were applied to the real production mold process and considerable reduction of cooling time was achieved.
