Generation of elegant Hermite–Gaussian beams using the graded-phase mirror

Since the elegant Hermite–Gaussian (EHG) beam was introduced, a feasible scheme for generating EHG beams has been needed. By using the graded-phase mirror, a semi-symmetrical optical resonator is proposed for generating EHG beams with mono-mode output and high power. Using numerical calculation, the geometrical parameters of the resonator are discussed for improving the output profile of the EHG beam. Moreover, the mode discrimination is illustrated and the thermal lensing is taken into account by using a simplified model. Provided that the parameters are chosen appropriately, the beam quality can be fairly good and the resonator can operate in single transverse mode, which means that the desired EHG beam can be delivered according to the specific demand.
