This paper contains: (a) an account of the phenomenological theory of noise in linear amplifiers operating from resistive signal sources; (b) a discussion of the noise parameters of bipolar and junction fieldeffect transistors; and (c) examples of how these principles can be applied in practical circuit design for resistive sources.
