Abstract A Web-bassed study support environment has been designed for improving the study effectiveness for teaching control engineering courses. An important goal of the environment is to provide students with frequent feedback about their progress in mastering the course content. Also in focussing the lectures on the bottleneck topics, and as consequence decreasing the number of standard hearing lectures, the students involvement is increased both during the lectures and in the pre- and post processing of the course. The overall positive reception by the students of the current initiative has resulted in a shift of the mark distribution towards to the better.
