PARALBUMINEMIA: PAPER AND CELLULOSE ACETATE ELECTROPHORESIS AND PRELIMINARY IMMUNOELECTROPHORETIC ANALYSIS.

Abstract Studies are presented of a Utah family exhibiting two electrophoretically distinguishable albumins, the synthesis of which is under genetic control. The propositus of this family study was fortuitously discovered in this laboratory upon routine paper electrophoretic analysis of her serum. Data are presented to show that the slower-moving paralbumin fraction is separable from both alpha-1 globulin and normal serum albumin when the serum is electrophoretically separated on cellulose acetate. Data are presented in support of the hypothesis that the two albumins are closely related antigenically and that they are separable serologically, depending upon the technique and test conditions employed.
