Linear and nonlinear semiconductor optical amplifiers

Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) may be designed as linear or nonlinear network elements. We report on recent results that indicate advantageous characteristics for QD SOAs as linear and bulk SOA as nonlinear network elements.
