Software Development for Predicting Strip Profile and Strip Edge Drop of a 20-high Mill

A CEM matrix for analysis of the deformation of the rolls and the strip in cold rolling of a Sendzimir mill with double AS-U-Roll systems has been established and a software SM4SM (Setup Models for Sendzimir Mill) has been developed by the Contact Element Method with Two Relative Coordinates (CEM). The strip profile, the strip edge drop, the rolling force, the roll deflection, etc., can be predicted under certain rolling condition. In this paper, the influence of the taper length, the taper slope and the shift of the first intermediate roll on the strip profile and the strip edge drop are analyzed with the software of SM4SM. The calculated results are of good significance for improvement the strip quality in cold rolling process.
