THE INSPECTION OF THIN-WALLED STAINLESS STEEL REACTOR GRADE TUBING

An inspection procedure is recommended for highintegrity stainless tubing suitable for fuel element sheathing making use of an ultrasonic technique as a primary inspection supplemented with visual inspection and a specially designed optical probe for the bore. It is emphasized that wherever possible natural defects should be used as standards for setting the inspection sensitivity and definlng the reject level. A precise ultrasonic interference micrometer was developed to determine local wall thickness variations. (Rev. Metal Lit., 21: No. 1, Jan. 1964)
