The influence of surface trapping on low energy light ion reflection

Abstract A computer simulation is used to calculate the reflection coefficients of low energy 4“<200 eV” ions in the presence of a structureless surface attractive field for the model system of hydrogen atoms impinging on amorphous titanium. Significant trapping effects are observed which modify both the magnitude and the functional behaviour of the reflection coefficients. It is concluded that such surface fields must be taken into account in models of low energy reflection processes.
