INFLUENCE OF PINHOLE ON ACCOMMODATIVE RESPONSE

The purpose was to discover the effect of the pinhole on accommodative response of the human eye. Black-cardboard and red-filter pinholes were employed. The haploscope was used with target at various distances to measure accommodative response. The present author, in his middle twenties at the time of the experiment, served as subject. Linear equations between accommodative stimuli and responses were calculated. Results showed that when accommodation is at rest, about half a dioptre of residual accommodation exists for both the control and the pinholes. So the pinholes have very little influence, if any, on the resting accommodation. The findings also indicated that the pinholes are effective in eliminating about two-thirds of the total portion of accommodative response when accommodation is above resting state. And finally, theoretical implication of the findings was discussed.
