On Problems Encountered with Dimension Calculations

In an attempt to quantitatively confirm the presence of Lorenz-like chaos in optically pumped FIR lasers, we have calculated dimensions and entropies (using the algorithm of Grassberger-Procaccia (1983)) from intensity time series obtained from numerically integrating the Lorenz equations and from sampling the output of the laser.
