PICKUP TRUCK/POLE FRONTAL CRASH TEST SUMMARY

A moderately extensive database has been developed for frontal impacts of cars into narrow fixed objects. However, there is little if any data available for narrow fixed object impacts of pickup trucks, vans, or sport-utility vehicles. This article presents combined results of 2 studies, one from the Federal Highway Administration and one from the Southwestern Association of Technical Accident Investigators, that investigated low speed frontal impact crashes of pickup trucks. Three models were studied: the 1978 Dodge Custom 100, the 1981 Ford F150, and the 1994 Chevrolet C2500. Findings are presented and discussed.
