Wave propagation and localization in disordered periodic laminated materials

Longitudinal plane wave motions and wave localization in layers of a materially periodic laminated media are investigated in this paper. Some basic discussions about wave dispersion are introduced. Numerical results are presented for free wave motion in the laminated media using the finite element method. The effect of material parameter imperfections on wave localization is studied statistically using Monte Carlo simulation. Wave localization is shown to be a fundamental feature of high frequency dynamic behavior of randomly-disordered periodic systems, regardless of the strength of coupling.
