Optimal Design and Management of Public Bicycle System for College Campus: A Case Study in China

The harmonious development of the college campus in China is challenged by the rising number of bicycles as well as low bicycles operating factor, meanwhile the call for eco-campus and low-carbon campus provokes an efficient and ecological trip mode—public bicycles. Through the investigation of 12 typical universities in China, the outlines of students traveling behaviors is studied. Starting from the feasibility and suitability study, the Public Bicycle System is introduced into the campus to solve the traffic management problems. A syllabus-based method of forecasting the campus trips and bicycle management have been put forward while taking Tongji University as an example under the planning of parking distribution and the design of dispatch management system for public bicycles. Besides, a relevant running and management mechanism have been developed and fully discussed.
