This paper presents the latest developments of ASDL research in the field of conceptual aircraft system architecting. The Architecture Desi gn Environment (ADEN) automates the definition of aircraft sizing models based on the f unctional description of the architecture. This definition is made possible through the method of functional induction presented last year. This paper also presents a method for subsyst em sizing which allows for the estimation of the figure of merits of the aircraft and the def inition of guidelines for subsystem optimization. This method is based on a mathematical description of the relationship between the architecture level optimization and sub system level optimization processes. This process facilitates the definition of coordinated g uidelines for subsystem design problem and steer their development toward the optimization of the architecture as a whole.
