A novel UWB pulse design based on chirp waveform with multiband division

Since the linear chirp waveform used to shape the UWB data has its own shortcomings, mismatch between the PSD and FCC mask and low frequency utilization ratio, multiband division of the UWB whole frequency band is introduced. A novel UWB pulse composed by number of subband linear chirp signals with different weights is designed by the Steepest Decent Method (SDM). The PSD of the proposed pulse matches the FCC mask very well, and the frequency utilization ratio can reach up to 90.8%. The simulation results demonstrate that the transmission performance of our proposed pulse indeed behaves much better than the linear chirp waveform and other conventional UWB pulses such as the Gaussian pulses.
