Investigation of the rotor mechanical stresses of various interior permanent magnet motors

The rotor mechanical stresses and deformation of various interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors have been investigated by finite element method (FEM). The bridge and segment area of IPM rotors have been taken great attention, as the severe stresses and deformation are generated at high speed. Both the centrifugal forces and electromagnetic forces have been considered in the analysis. The electromagnetic and mechanical model has been used to study the different rotor structures and optimize the rotor design. The results have also been used as design guide for high-speed IPM motor development.
