Compact PI-Shaped Slot Antenna for 2.4/5-GHz Wireless USB Dongle Applications

A compact 2.4/5-GHz dual-band slot antenna for wireless USB dongle applications is presented. The antenna consists of one pi-shaped slot, one microstrip feedline and an FR-4 substrate. The overall dimensions of the fabricated antenna are 30×13×1.6mm which can be easily integrated with a wireless USB dongle. Studies on the return loss of the proposed antenna demonstrate that the proposed antenna has two operation bands with three resonant frequencies at 2.4GHz, 5.5GHz and 6.5GHz. The lower band is from 2.38 to 2.61GHz and the higher band is from 4.95 to 7.15GHz. It can completely cover the required bandwidths of IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n standards with satisfactory radiation characteristics.
