Adhesion of two surfaces is effected by applying separately to the surfaces or to one of them, an aldehyde-urea condensation product, particularly a formaldehyde-urea condensation product, and a substance exerting a hardening influence thereon. The adhesive or the hardening agent may be applied first to the surface and the other body applied over it. Suitable hardening agents include acids, e.g. hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric, acetic, oxalic and lactic; acid salts, e.g. acid sodium sulphate, mono-ammonium phosphate and aluminium chloride and substances splitting off acids when incorporated in the adhesive mixture, e.g. ammonium chloride and sulphate. Further additions such as starch, potato flour, ground potato flakes or fillers may be incorporated with the adhesives. The cementing is completed by pressure with or without heating to a temperature up to 150 DEG C., and may be applied to paste board, vulcanized fibre, textiles and wood.
