Compact CPW‐fed square aperture CP antenna for GPS and INMARSAT applications

This study proposed a coplanar-waveguide-fed square aperture circularly polarized (CP) antenna for the global positioning system and the International Maritime Satellite applications. The CP radiation is achieved by loading the aperture with a T-shaped and a spur-like strip. With the dimensions of the T-shaped strip fixed, the CP radiation can be tuned to the desired band in a certain frequency range by adjusting the spur-like strip. The measured 3-dB axial-ratio band is around 1.59 GHz with a bandwidth of 11.1% and a gain of about 3 dBic. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
