The impact of information technology on organisational structures

Abstract This paper describes an effort to assess the impact of information technology on organisational structures. In particular it examines the problem of applying this research to a virtually greenfield environment since little investigation has taken place on Asian companies; also no definitive work presently exists on the global Hong Kong environment, which is unique in Asia, if not the world. At this time, we are able to assess: the analytical framework and overall conceptual approach to the project; use of existing structural analysis models to develop a basic Hong Kong model; characteristics of the basic Hong Kong model and the refinements for a new model; approaches for the measurement of system effectiveness. The project covers an analysis of IT, and IS for the spectrum of computer system users in Hong Kong including local and multi-national films.
