A knowledge based system for controls-displays selection

Abstract Appropriate controls and displays are important in achieving an efficient man-machine system. This paper presents the development of a knowledge based system that can facilitate the process of controls and displays selection. Information from the literature was aggregated and classified into selection criteria. Based on these criteria, decision trees for selection cisplays and controls were developed. The decision trees were then programmed using an artificial intelligence language, XLISP. The system can recommend appropriate devices that can meet the process requirements.
