Finite element analysis on transverse trench lugs at end of continuously reinforced concrete pavement

The transverse trence lug anchorage is a simple and useful style of end-anchorages for the continuously reinforced concrete pavement(CRCP).This paper computes and analyzes the movement and stress of lugs under the force caused by the rise of the temperature through the finite element method. It decides the movement at the top of lugs, the largest stress of the lugs and the pavement as the controlling criteria, puts forward the method to decide the height, width and distance of the lugs, analyzes the effects of such parameters as the elastic modulus of soil and the height, distance and number of lugs on the movement and stress of the lugs, testifies the results from finite element method by the test in labs, and provides the design graphes of the end anchorage of CRCP for designers. This paper discovers the distribution of the soil pressure on the lugs, which overthrows the wrong distribution supposition made before, and has improved the accuracy of the results to a great extent. Some important conclusions are presented.
