Esters in human hair fat

SummaryA study was made of the hair fat composition of human adults with special reference to its ester content. Waxes, triglycerides, and a mixture of mono-and di-glycerides were isolated and charcterized. Indirect evidence is presented that the free acids of hair fat are derived from lipolysis of triglycerides. Some preferential esterification of some kinds of fatty acids as glycerides and others as waxes was observed. No significant differences could be observed in the analysis of the hair fat of adult males compared with that of adult females of the same age group.
