Grouped NOMA Multicast Transmission for F-RAN With Wireless Fronthaul and Edge Caching

A Fog Radio Access Network (F-RAN) equipped with wireless fronthaul link is considered. In the system, a set of user equipments (UEs) independently request files from a library that can be accessed by a central processor (CP). The CP serves the UEs with the requested files through a set of distributed edge nodes (ENs). The ENs have local caches to which some popular contents can be pre-fetched. This work investigates the advantages of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme for reducing the delivery latency on the CP-to-ENs fronthaul and ENs-to-UEs edge links. The problem of jointly optimizing the NOMA transmission strategies for the fronthaul and edge links is tackled with the goal of minimizing the delivery latency from the CP to the UEs while satisfying the transmission power constraints at the CP and the ENs. Numerical results validate the advantages of the proposed joint fronthaul and edge NOMA transmission scheme.
