STUDY OF POLLEN IN THE AIR OF ZAGREB

In connection with hayfever more and more care is devoted to the study of plants which are numerously represented in a given district and which produce a considerable amount of pollen spread about by wind. Parallel to the study of the extension of these plants goes the study of the atmospheric pollen, i.e. the pollen floating in the surrounding atmosphere in the time of its flowering. Such studies on the territory of Zagreb were started by us and made in 1957 and 1958. The study of the atmospheric pollen had not been done in Jugoslavia before and in our work we mainly followed tbe generally applied gravity test method after Durham. In a standard apparatus constructed for this purpose I exposed the test slides properly coated with soft petrolatum jelly to the free air. The test slides were exposed for 24 hours and the counts of the pollen grains were done on the slide surface of 4.84 sq.cm.
